About the Center for Ethical AI
The Center for Ethical AI was created from a simple but unsettling realization: most people cannot reliably tell what’s real online anymore. Founder Alexis Walsh first began seriously questioning the public impact of AI after watching a viral "spot the fake" video and realizing how many AI-generated clips were nearly impossible to identify correctly.
What started as a passing moment quickly became a much bigger question-- if everyday people can no longer confidently recognize manipulated content, how are communities supposed to protect themselves as this technology rapidly expands into education, hiring, healthcare, customer service, media, and public life?
Our Mission
We believe the public deserves honest conversations about artificial intelligence. Not sensationalism, fear-mongering, or vague promises about “ethical AI.”
The Center for Ethical AI exists to help students, families, older adults, and local communities better understand the real-world impact of AI while advocating for transparency, accountability, and public education.
Through research, scholarships, community initiatives, and future ethical standards programs, we aim to create practical resources that help people navigate a rapidly changing digital world with more confidence and less confusion.
Why This Work Matters
AI is advancing faster than public understanding, regulation, and consumer protections can keep up. Decisions about jobs, information, communication, privacy, and access to services are increasingly shaped by systems most people do not fully understand, including many of the people building and promoting them.
We believe communities need independent nonprofit organizations focused on the public interest, especially for vulnerable groups like students and older adults who are often the least protected from misinformation, scams, surveillance risks, and harmful automated systems. This work is not about resisting technology. It is about making sure people still have a voice, a choice, and access to trustworthy guidance as technology reshapes everyday life.
